“If we give our heart to God, if we love the Lord Jesus Christ, if we do the best we can to live the gospel, then tomorrow—and every other day—is ultimately going to be magnificent, even if we don’t always recognize it as such. Why? Because our Heavenly Father wants it to be!”

Top 10 Favourite NBA Players (#9) Isaiah Thomas
Tumblr media
For my number 9 pick on my top 10 favourite NBA players list i will put Isaiah Thomas. Thomas has played many seasons and with many teams in the nba but most memorably on the Boston Celtics in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons. Isaiah Thomas is here at #9 due to his size and determination which is undeniably incredible. First of all i will talk about his size. Isaiah Thomas is 5 foot 9, which is the shortest in the entire league at the moment . The fact that at this height he was still able to do all that he did is amazing. In the 2016-17 NBA season he averaged 28.9 points which was 3rd in the NBA and 5.9 assists . In addition he led this team to the eastern conference finals in which he faced Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers and sadly lost. This season he also finished 5th in MVP voting which is unheard of from a player of his stature. The NBA and basketball in general favours taller people but in this case his determination and perseverance led him to massive success. The next reason i am a big fan of Isaiah Thomas is the amount of hardships he had to endure. On April 15th of 2017 Thomas' sister sadly passed away in a car accident. This day he had a game 7 playoff game against the Washington Wizards where he went on to still play and score 33 points to lead his team to victory. Being able to continue to not only play but perform well on a day like this is one reason i like Isaiah Thomas.
youtube
The next season Isaiah was betrayed by the Boston Celtics and traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers where they would not appreciate his ability and in the same season trade him to the Los Angeles Lakers. From this point on Thomas' career began to decline. After he was traded from the Celtics it seemed as though he was no longer the same player, since then he has played for 7 different teams but he has never given up and is still an active NBA player although not being on a roster. In conclusion i am a big fan and supporter of Isaiah Thomas and his career because doing all that he did, as the smallest player in the entire NBA with additional hardships is incredibly respectable and admirable.

Biden Justice Department Asks Court to Keep the Names of Jack Smith’s Top Staff Secret
“The liberties of a people never were, nor ever will be, secure, when the transactions of their rulers may be concealed from them.” Patrick Henry wrote. That is the concern we face today with unlawful government secrecy.
The U.S. Department of Justice is asking a federal court to allow the agency to keep secret the names of top staffers working in Special Counsel Jack Smith’s office that is targeting former President Donald Trump and other Americans.
We filed a FOIA lawsuit in May 2023 after the Justice Department rejected a December 9, 2022, FOIA request for ”staff rosters, phone lists, or similar records depicting all employees hired by or detailed to office of Special Counsel Jack Smith” (Judicial Watch Inc. v U.S. Department of Justice (No. 1:23-cv-01485)).
After months of delay, the Biden Justice Department finally acknowledged on April 12, 2023, that it possessed two staff rosters responsive to our request, but, citing a supposed “dearth of FOIA public interest,” was withholding the rosters under privacy and law enforcement exemptions. We explained in our motion that we were only seeking the names of top-level staffers – those at the GS-14 level and above – and did not seek email addresses or phone numbers.
In our motion, Judicial Watch quotes President Joe Biden’s remarks at a November 9, 2022, White House press conference and provide the background and justification for the FOIA request:
“Well, we just have to demonstrate that [Donald Trump] will not take power – if we – if he does run. I’m making sure he, under legitimate efforts of our Constitution, does not become the next President again.” - President Joe Biden
On November 18, 2022, [three days after Trump announced he would run for president again in 2024], Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Special Counsel Jack Smith to investigate potential criminal wrongdoing by former President Donald J. Trump. The appointment came nine days after President Biden announced his effort to “mak[e] sure” Trump did not become president again. The unprecedented investigation – and now prosecutions – by an incumbent president of his immediate predecessor, opponent in the last election, and leading opponent in the upcoming election raises numerous questions about who Special Counsel Smith chose to assist him in this highly charged endeavor. Are these persons opponents or supporters of the former president, aligned with one of the two major political parties, or otherwise biased or conflicted, or are they unbiased, nonpartisan professionals?
Further, we cite the Fani Willis and the other anti-Trump investigation scandals in explaining the public interest in knowing who is involved in this unprecedented prosecution:
Two recent examples highlight the importance of knowing the identities of the SCO’s staffers. Notorious FBI employees Peter Stzrok and Lisa Page were both members of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation of then-President Trump…. Stzrok was the lead FBI investigator assigned to the probe, and Page was a “general attorney” on Special Counsel Mueller’s staff…. During the investigation, it was discovered that Strzok and Page had exchanged voluminous texts disparaging then-candidate Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign, commenting that “we’ll stop” Trump from becoming president, and citing having an “insurance policy” in case he did…. A subsequent report by the U.S. Department of Justice Inspector General was highly critical of the exchanges, noting with respect to the “we’ll stop it” text in particular:
[W]hen one senior FBI official, Strzok, who was helping to lead the Russia investigation at the time, conveys in a text message to another senior FBI official, Page, “No. No he won’t. We’ll stop it” in response to her question “[Trump’s] not ever going to become president, right? Right?!”, it is not only indicative of a biased state of mind but, even more seriously, implies a willingness to take official action to impact the presidential candidate’s electoral prospects. This is antithetical to the core values of the FBI and the Department of Justice.
Fulton County, Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis, who also has brought criminal charges against the former president, is now reportedly under investigation herself for allegedly choosing her paramour, Nathan Wade, to lead the prosecution…. Although Wade’s identity was already known, it led to the discovery of new, previously unknown information that bears on the public perception of the prosecution. It helps the public to know “what their government is up to.” This case is no different.
In our motion, we further explain:
Defendant’s argument that disclosing the more-than-one-year-old rosters could reasonably be expected to interfere with the SCO’s work because it could lead to the SCO’s staff being threatened and harassed is entirely conclusory, little more than speculation, and lacks meaningful evidentiary support. It also ignores the fact that the names of at least 23 SCO staffers are readily available from public sources, yet the public availability of these names and in some instances email addresses and a cell phone number does not seem to have had any discernable impact on the functioning of the SCO…. Its prosecution of the former president and the two other individuals certainly appears to be proceeding apace, and Defendant has neither claimed nor demonstrated otherwise.
We conclude that the government’s exemption claims fail and that the Justice Department’s request to close the case is “plainly insufficient to satisfy its burden of proving that its withholdings are lawful.”
Our motion includes a declaration that lists 23 individuals working for Special Counsel Smith who were identified using publicly available court filings; an additional four names were located in media reports.
Special Counsel Jack Smith isn’t above the law, and the American people have the right to know who is working on his unprecedented and politicized anti-Trump investigation. Given the scandalous revelations about the Fani Willis prosecution team targeting Trump, it is especially urgent that Americans know just who the top people on Jack Smith’s staff are.
We’re involved in other matters regarding President Trump.
Through the New York Freedom of Information Law, in July 2023, we received the engagement letter showing New York County District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg paid $900 per hour for partners and $500 per hour for associates to the Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher law firm for the purpose of suing Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) in an effort to shut down the House Judiciary Committee’s oversight investigation into Bragg’s unprecedented indictment of former President Donald Trump.
Through FOIA, we uncovered information about Special Counsel’s Mueller’s budget and staff. We also sued for and obtained records for the budget of Special Counsel John Durham. A Judicial Watch lawsuit also uncovered calendar entries of Mueller special counsel prosecutor Andrew Weissmann showing he led the hiring effort for the investigation that targeted President Trump.
In January 2024, we filed a lawsuit against Fulton County, Georgia for records regarding the hiring of Nathan Wade as a special prosecutor by District Attorney Fani Willis. Wade was hired to pursue unprecedented criminal investigations and prosecutions against former President Trump and others over the 2020 election disputes.
Before his appointment to investigate and prosecute Trump, Jack Smith previously was at the center of several other controversial issues, the IRS scandal among them.
In 2014, a Judicial Watch investigation revealed that top IRS officials had been in communication with Jack Smith’s then-Public Integrity Section about a plan to launch criminal investigations into conservative tax-exempt groups. Government officials were looking to step up a probe into requests for tax-exemption from organizations with conservative sounding names like “Tea Party” and other “political sounding names,” according to a later report by the Treasury Department’s inspector general. Jack Smith appears to have been a key player in this attempt to silence conservative voices.
According to the documents we obtained, Jack Smith directed the head of the Justice Department’s Election Crimes Branch, Richard Pilger, to meet with the director of the IRS’s Tax-Exempt Organizations division, Lois Lerner. In one email we obtained, Lerner discusses an idea that the Justice Department could build “false-statement cases” against tax-exempt conservative groups.
We later obtained additional documents detailing a planning meeting between Justice Department, FBI and IRS officials about possible criminal prosecutions. Thanks to our disclosures, House investigators discovered that the IRS improperly turned over confidential tax records of nonprofit organizations to the FBI—sparking a public uproar and forcing the return of the records to the IRS. Read more about the case here.

It's properly formatted on Google, they have a Word Document that is free, you have to have a Google Account. If you use YouTube, have an account signed into it, there you go.
It will be the right-hand side next to your profile picture, click on the six dots in the shape of a square, it will be the Drive...they also have a Translate at the bottom for learning languages.
I would've figured this out sooner if I had quiet, not in debt and wasn't surrounded by children.
Here's everything that I know:
-There are 36, 37 if you count your account, apps on your Google Account
-If you need help, they'll have a generally asked questions site
-There will be tutorials on YouTube if you need help
-Take Notes, keep them simple and easy for YOU to understand, most phones, laptops and tablets will have sticky notes, word, or some alternative to Microsoft
-Every phone, laptop, tablet, etcetera will have a search bar to look up stuff on your phone, laptop, tablet, etcetera. It will be the same under settings.
-You can figure out the model of your phone blah blah blah and order parts online, I've done that with my old Gateway laptop.
-Public Libraries are a great place for Knowledge, finding books to read, going on the internet. Where I live, you'll need a library card (last I checked) If they still have it, they'll also have book sales, I found the Lord of The Rings book a long time ago.
-Nicer jobs have waitlists...at least, where I live (Michigan)
-You work too well, you'll fill 2-3 positions, like I did.
-If you live in a box and it's hot: Hot box
-You live by Nature, the branches can extend into pipes, damage them or have their roots in them... causing blockage.
-Heat rises, Heat rises
I could go into more detail, however I'm not. There are other individuals who can explain it better than I can with videos on YouTube; Spotify.

This post has been in my drafts since April; at the time it only had a few hundred notes. I wanted to give my own two cents to the discussion, but didn't know how to express my thoughts then. But I guess a poorly-worded opinion is still better than not talking about it at all.
I'm a translator. I have an MA in translation, I work in the industry. For the two years of my studies, the topic of Machine Translation (MT) has always been there, even if we didn't always explicitly talk about it. Every conference included discussions on where MT (and AI) is going and how it'll affect the trade. While we were actively discouraged from using them in our first year, in the second year we were given assignments to use Google Translate, DeepL or even ChatGPT to translate texts and see how they fare, and correct them. And mind you, we weren't translating novels there. Economics, finance, legal documents. Those get the food on the table for a translator, and those are the stuff that MT excels at.
The use of machine learning has been a topic in this field for far longer than anywhere I think, because Machine Translation (MT) that uses neural networks has been around longer than the explosion of the AI trend (Google Translate switched to this model from statistical algorithms in 2016).
And the question is always there: is MT going to put us out of a job? Short answer: no.
The long answer is that we know that MT can and will be used, so we have to learn how to utilize it. The EU has its own MT that is trained exclusively on EU texts. The ISO standard already includes the definition of post-editing, which is the proofreading of machine-translated texts. Translation agencies and translators alike already use it. I use it. And you use it too, I'm sure of that. It's here and it ain't going anywhere.
But MT is nowhere near perfect. In the assignments where we had to put texts in Google Translate and DeepL and see their output, the results on first glance looked pretty good, and for example, in a comparatively small language like Hungarian, it often put out very well formed sentences. But there's the catch, the texts are only good on first glance. There are a lot of problems where the MT used incorrect terminology, puts out weirdly formed sentences or even adds or removes words (what we know as hallucinations in Large Language Models). Because MT only creates output based on parallel texts, texts that already had a translated version to learn from. It doesn't do research. It doesn't know who the text is translated for. It doesn't know what the topic or the broader context of the text is. That's what the human translator is trained for! The translator does the research and even if they aren't well-versed in the topic they translate, they know how to check if a term is correct in the given context, they know where to look and who to ask.
There's also the problem that there's so much machine translated text out on the internet now that MTs are now pulling data from those, no matter how bad the machine generated texts are. It practically starts inbreeding if people won't go out their way to "clean" all that text of problems.
At their current state, an MT may be sufficient for translating a webpage or a comment or an e-mail for you, but it sure as hell won't give you a legally good translation of your contract on rent (on that note, please do not use free translation services to translate documents with sensitive or personal information in them! You don't know what'll happen with that data!)
And I think this is the fate of machine illustrations as well. You can make an extremely good generative model to make picture-perfect images, but you cannot circumvent human professionalism from the process, not if you want a quality product.
This machine kills AI

Jack Suwinski: The Emerging Baseball Sensation
In the world of professional baseball, there are those players who come and go, leaving little impact on the sport. Then there are those who, despite their youth and inexperience, manage to make a name for themselves by demonstrating exceptional talent and potential. One such player is Jack Suwinski, the young slugger who has been turning heads and causing a stir in the baseball community.
Tumblr media
Born on May 17, 1998, in Elk Grove, California, Jack Suwinski is an American professional baseball player who currently plays for the Pittsburgh Pirates as an outfielder and first baseman. While he may still be a relative newcomer to the Major Leagues, Suwinski has already shown that he has what it takes to become a star in the sport.
The Early Days: From High School to College
Suwinski's love for baseball began at a young age. He attended Elk Grove High School, where he played both baseball and football. It was during his high school years that Suwinski began to make a name for himself as a talented athlete. He was named All-League and All-City his junior and senior years, and he even led his team to a section championship in his final year.
After high school, Suwinski went on to play college baseball at the University of San Diego, where he continued to hone his skills and develop as a player. In his sophomore year, he hit .316 with 10 home runs and 41 RBIs, earning him a spot on the All-West Coast Conference team.
Drafted by the Padres: A Dream Come True
Suwinski's hard work and dedication paid off when he was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 14th round of the 2016 MLB draft. This was a dream come true for the young player, who had always dreamed of playing professional baseball.
Suwinski began his professional career in the Padres' minor league system, playing for the Tri-City Dust Devils, Fort Wayne TinCaps, and Lake Elsinore Storm. He steadily climbed the ranks, eventually making it to the Padres' Double-A affiliate, the San Antonio Missions.
The Trade to Pittsburgh: A New Chapter
In 2021, Suwinski's career took a surprising turn when he was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates as part of a deal that sent former Pirates' outfielder, Bryan Reynolds, to the Padres. This move proved to be a blessing in disguise for Suwinski, as he was given the opportunity to play at the Major League level with the Pirates.
Suwinski made his MLB debut on April 7, 2022, and quickly became a fan favorite due to his impressive performance on the field. He finished his rookie season with a .205 batting average, 10 home runs, and 31 RBIs in 95 games.
A Natural at the Plate: Suwinski's Unique Approach
One of the things that sets Suwinski apart from other players is his natural ability at the plate. He has a unique approach to hitting, which involves a combination of patience, discipline, and power.
Suwinski's patience at the plate allows him to wait for the perfect pitch, which he can then drive into the outfield for a hit or a home run. His discipline is evident in his ability to work the count and draw walks, which is crucial for a team's success. And his power comes from his strong, athletic build and his ability to generate bat speed and leverage.
A Team Player: Suwinski's Impact on the Pirates
Despite his young age and relative inexperience, Suwinski has quickly become a key player for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He has not only provided much-needed power to the team's lineup but has also displayed a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn from his teammates and coaches.
Suwinski's team-first mentality has made him a valuable asset to the Pirates, both on and off the field. He has become a fan favorite in Pittsburgh and has helped to energize the team and its supporters.
A Bright Future: What's Next for Jack Suwinski?
As Suwinski continues to develop and mature as a player, the sky is the limit for his career. He has already shown that he has the talent and potential to become a star in the sport, and there is no doubt that he will continue to make a significant impact on the game of baseball.
In the coming years, Suwinski will no doubt face new challenges and opportunities, but with his natural ability, strong work ethic, and team-first mentality, there is no doubt that he will continue to rise to the occasion and achieve great things in the world of professional baseball.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Jack Suwinski is a young baseball player with a bright future ahead of him. Despite his youth and inexperience, he has already demonstrated exceptional talent and potential, both on and off the field. With his unique approach to hitting, strong work ethic, and team-first mentality, Suwinski is poised to become a star in the sport of baseball. As he continues to develop and mature as a player, there is no doubt that he will continue to make a significant impact on the game and inspire a new generation of baseball fans.

‘Disruptive’ Jared Verse is Rams' first pick
Tumblr media
HERMOSA BEACH - The Los Angeles Rams got it right last year. After doing some home purging of their roster, the Rams went the way of the NFL Draft to shore up their personnel. The Rams went with the youth movement.  The strategy paid off for head coach Sean McVay and general manager Les Snead.  The Rams had 14 draft picks in 20223. All 14 of those draft picks wound up making the team. Several players, including defensive tackle Kobie Turner, offensive lineman Steve Avila, and wide receiver Puka Nacua produced stellar rookie debuts.
Tumblr media
PITTSBURGH, PA - NOVEMBER 04: Florida State Seminoles defensive lineman Jared Verse (5) rushes on defense during a college football game against the Pittsburgh Panthers on November 04, 2023 at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. (Photo by Joe Robbins/Icon Sportswire) The challenge for the Rams has been magnified with the retirement of star defensive tackle Aaron Donald. Even at the quarterback position with starter Matthew Stafford and backup Jimmy Garoppolo, another signal-caller would add more youth to that quarterback room.  The Rams came into the 2024 draft coming off a year in which they made a surprising playoff run, losing out to NFC Conference runner-up Detroit Lions. And so with the 19th overall pick in the draft this year, the Rams made Florida State edge rusher Jared Verse their selection.  “It’s a dream come true,” Verse said duing a Zoom press call with reporters. “You work your whole life for this moment. I talked to the Rams throughout the process. Last week I got to meet with them again and do one last interview with them and it felt like the right thing. As you go on, as you go through the whole process and hear them call my name with that Los Angeles Rams attached to it. Woo! Dream come true.” The hole on the defensive line created by the retirement of Donald simply called for the Rams to fill that void immediately. In his two seasons playing for the Seminoles, Verse recorded 18 sacks and 29.5 tackles for losses.  At 6-foot-4 and 254 pounds, Verse has the size to play at the NFL level.  His ability to create havoc in the offensive backfield could be attributed to the motor he has thanks to his track background. At the NFL Combine, Verse posted a 40-yard time of 4.58 seconds.  “It helps your footwork a lot because you can't make false steps,” Verse said. “If you make false steps in track, they don't care how fast you are, but in high school you might be able to get away. When you face top level competition your form has to be perfect, especially on the later runs like the 100 to 200 to 400, your strides become very important.”  “That's why when a quarterback or a running back gets of out the pocket, I have faith in my speed and my form to be able to catch up to him and do something like that. Even if they may be faster, their form is not better than mine,” he added.  Verse is the first player to be selected by the Rams in the first round since 2016. That was the year the Rams made Jared Goff, now the starting quarterback of the Detroit Lions, the face of their franchise.  The Rams have moved on from the Goff experiment and have won a Super Bowl since then with Matthew Stafford manning the quarterback position.  "The way he plays the game, from the first snap to the last snap of the game, he wears people down." ?? Coach McVay on @JaredVerse1 pic.twitter.com/Dpmsi4TFxm— Los Angeles Rams (@RamsNFL) April 26, 2024 The Rams want to make another Super Bowl run with Stafford. That means surrounding the veteran quarterback with all the right pieces to enable that to take place. Filling in the gap left behind by Donald was of the highest priority for the Rams. According to the overview of his draft profile, Verse is described as being “twitchy and compact, with explosiveness featured at the point of attack.” Translation: Verse is a disruptor, which McVay likes.   “He's got great hands. He's violent,” McVay said. “He's got a versatile arsenal of moves that he can activate, but he plays the game the way that we want it to be played. We're looking for grown men on defense and I think you've seen a lot of the guys that we've added through free agency and then with the first pick tonight, he was one of the guys that we had targeted and feel really good coming away with him. He's going to make a big impact.” One of the things that has Snead impressed with Verse is his passion for the game.  “The cool thing about him is where he started (at) Albany, transferred to Florida State," Snead said. "Might have gone about where he went tonight last year, but he decided to stay back. I can tell you about him. He's just one of those guys that you want to just watch another game on because you can tell he cares about football. He has fun playing football and oh, by the way, he's pretty disruptive, violent. You think defense, the way he plays is next to the word in the dictionary.” Top Image Caption: CHESTNUT HILL, MA - SEPTEMBER 16: Florida State Seminoles defensive lineman Jared Verse (5) in action during the college football game between Florida State Seminoles and Boston College Eagles on September 16, 2023, at Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill, MA. Very sad to learn that Dr. Raul Pertierra (2 July 1941-7 April 2024) has passed on. From Macquarie University, where he was educated and taught initially, to the University of Sydney and the University of New South Wales (UNSW), where he taught for many years, he was pivotal in pushing for Australia-related studies in the Philippines and is one of the pioneering figures in promoting Philippine Studies in Australia. In 1992, with Mark Turner and Lulu Respall-Turner, he co-organized the International Philippine Studies Conference in Canberra. It was unprecedented because participants were culled from experts in and out of Australia, many from Southeast Asian and North American universities.
Over two decades ago, he introduced me to Australian Studies and guided me through my Ph.D. application at the Australian National University (ANU). He was thrilled when I received the ANU Vice Chancellor's Ph.D. Scholarship at the Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies (renamed College of Asia and the Pacific), thanks to his foresight and direction. The night before I left for Canberra, he treated me to dinner and gave me a list of names, emails, and phone numbers of his friends across Australia. The list served me well when I did archival and field research in Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney. Through him, I was introduced to Michael and Leny Pinches at the University of Western Australia, Mina Roces at the University of New South Wales, Deborah Ruiz Wall and her involvement with aboriginal communities at Red Fern, and Mark and Lulu Respall-Turner at the University of Canberra.
More than these, Raul was prolific. His works include The Filipino Migration Experience Global Agents of Change (2023), Anthropology and the AlDub Nation: Entertainment as Politics and Politics as Entertainment (2016), Reflections on the Relevance of the Social Sciences in the Philippines (2014), We Reveal ourselves to ourselves: the new communication media in the Philippines (2013), The new communication media and their effects on Filipino culture and society (2008), The role of everyday culture for a scientific orientation in Philippine society: are the youth any different? (2006), Transforming Technologies Altered Selves: Mobile Phones and Internet Use in the Philippines (2006), Cultural Diversity and Cultural Exchanges in the Framework of Globalization (2004), Science, Technology, and everyday culture in the Philippines (2003), Txt-ing selves: cellphones and Philippine Modernity (as co-author, 2002), The globalization of culture: possibilities and threats (2000), Emancipation within culture (1998), Explorations in social theory and Philippine ethnography (1997), Philippine localities and global perspectives essays on society and culture (1995), and Religion, Politics and Rationality (1988).
In his later years, Raul furthered his teaching, archival, and field research as a Visiting Professor at The Centre for Asian Studies Amsterdam, a joint center of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and the Free University (VU), and at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS) in Singapore. In the Philippines, he taught sociology and anthropology at the Ateneo de Manila University, Philippine Women's University, and the Asian Center, UP Diliman. More than twenty years ago, he problematized the breadth and scope of the digital age on the lives of Filipinos. He believed that Filipinos were shaping their social world through new information technologies. This included generating, distributing, and consuming information as a crucial part of the order of things. He foreshadowed specificities of what became an AI future where technology would play a more significant role in shaping society. His insights into the digital age have proven to be accurate over time.
Maraming Salamat Raul. Many of us will remember the legacy you have left behind.

Week 2. 'Starting Out'
Week 2 : Starting Out
My first week of class, involved getting to know other people in the course, and learning more details about the course, i felt nervous about getting to know other people. Coming in, I felt very curious as to where this course would take me in terms of a job and communications.
My assignments were coming thick and fast and I was a little overwhelmed. Having watched 'Inside the Mind of a Procrastinator', 2016, TED Talks, I realised that I often spend time in the orange zone with the gratification monkey on my shoulder. Urban (2016, April 7) suggests that we need to focus on being a rational decision maker where there is a long term plan, and the end goal is understood.
Tumblr media
Image One : Procrastinator's Brain, Urban 2016
Therefore, with some guidance, I planned a colour coded Semester Schedule, Image 1, a Weekly Plan, Image 2, giving me time to study, work, coach and play my sports and, relax. This has enabled me to see the semester in context of what i hope to achieve over the next three years.
I made an Assignment Folder, Image 3. The Assignment Folder is organised in chronological order of due date across all subjects, Image 4, and contains each Assignment Brief, the rubric and a personal Assignment Plan. These plans were generated on Assignment Planner, RMIT University. I have also included a summary of the APA7 Referencing Guidelines in my folder.

Introduction of Alibaba OceanBase
"On May 20, 2021, good news came from TPC (Transaction Processing Performance Council), an authoritative organization in the field of international databases, that OceanBase, a self-developed database product of Alibaba Company, broke the total performance score of 15,260,000 QphH with With a total performance score of 15.26 million QphH, OceanBase, a database product developed by Alibaba, broke the historical record of TPC-H 30,000GB and got the world No. 1 in OLAP (Online Analytical Processing). in 2019 and 2020, OceanBase has topped the world's OLTP (Online Transaction Processing) TPC-C benchmark performance test for two times. This means alibaba oceanbase has become the only Chinese self-developed database in the database field that got the first place in international technical reviews in both transaction processing and data analysis."
On April 16, 2018, then U.S. Commerce Secretary Ross ordered a ban on U.S. companies exporting telecom parts and components to Chinese telecom equipment maker ZTE. For a while, the telecom equipment manufacturing giant, which was preparing for the 5G market, was caught by the neck, and from product development to equipment production, the company almost came to a standstill.
Three days later, Science and Technology Daily launched a column on the front page titled "Core Technologies to be Tackled" to systematically analyze the shortcomings of key core technologies in China, which aroused a great response from the whole country, especially from the scientific and technological circles. "The column successively listed 35 "critical" technologies, and the commercial database management system (DBMS), i.e., database technology, was among them.
Along with the rapid growth of Ali's newly established Taobao business, Ali's investment in database research and development began to accelerate. In order to respond to the rapid growth of business needs, Taobao even enabled the largest Oracle RAC cluster in Asia. However, performance bottlenecks and cost pressures still make the database system has become a Taobao business development difficulties.
Similar to other Internet companies of the same generation, Ali's road to developing its own database system began with the construction of a self-developed database platform based on an open source database system. Under the open source database project MySQL, Ali's technical team built a branch called AliSQL, investing R&D efforts to continuously optimize system performance and implement new features. At the 2016 Yunqi Conference, AliCloud announced that AliSQL was open source, and compared to the community version of MySQL, AliSQL has a 70% performance improvement, and in the case of supporting the second kill scenario, the performance is even a hundred-fold Improvement.
With the development of the Internet, especially mobile Internet technology, IT technology has entered the era of big data. Database technology has also developed from centralized platform to distributed technology. With the rapid arrival of the cloud era, the distributed database technology relying on cloud native technology has brought a new technological revolution in the development of database technology. Cloud-native decoupled pooling of system resources and support for distributed horizontal scalability of resources, while the cloud-native database by separating storage and computation, to achieve the computing elasticity of traditional databases can not reach, as well as system resilience. In particular, cloud-native technology realizes the integration of database computation and analysis, which solves the shortcomings of traditional databases to do OLTP (Online Transaction Processing) and OLAP (Online Analytical Processing) which need to use two different sets of technical solutions and consume a large amount of resources to do data migration in the two systems.
In 2010, in the same year when the open source distributed computing framework Spark project was announced, Ali established the OceanBase project team, with the goal of becoming the leader of cloud-native distributed database.
The commercialization of OceanBase has taken one step at a time. in 2014, OceanBase supported the peak of Double 11 that year, achieving zero breakthroughs in core business transaction scenarios. in 2017, OceanBase stepped out of Alibaba for the first time, and Bank of Nanjing became the first external customer. Today, OceanBase has been applied in many organizations to help enterprises realize digital transformation. As the good news from TPC at the beginning of this article, OceanBase has been continuously recognized by domestic and foreign peers in the industry.

The Golden Rule
Norman Rockwell painting hanging in the United Nations building at New York City, NY.
The Golden Rule mosaic is based on a painting by well-known American artist Norman Rockwell (1894 – 1978). The painting served as the illustration for the cover of the April 1961 issue of the Saturday Evening Post, a popular magazine. Rockwell’s most well-known work is the series of oil paintings called Four Freedoms, which was inspired by a 1941 speech by USA President Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882 – 1945). The speech centered on the idea of a postwar world based on four basic freedoms; freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom from want, and freedom from fear. Another recurring theme in Rockwell’s work is tolerance.     The mosaic depicts people of every race, creed, and color, with dignity and respect and touches on the theme of human rights. Inscribed on the surface of the mosaic is the Golden Rule: Do Unto Others as You Would Have Them Do Unto You. It depicts a common experience and a shared aspiration to unify the world’s religions and philosophies. In the mosaic, people of all traditions and cultures of the world are in united harmony. The artist said, “When I decided to attempt a picture illustrating the Golden Rule and, remembering this charcoal, hauled it out of the cellar and looked at it, I immediately felt that in the grouping of the peoples of the world behind the delegates was the basis for my picture illustrating the Golden Rule.”  The government and the people of the United States of America presented this gift to the United Nations and Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar received it. It was presented by the USA’s First Lady, Nancy Reagan (1921 – 2016), on 21 October 1985, in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the United Nations. Don Diligent’s Message to Sun Myung Moon and Neil Salonen: admit the UC is a CIA operation!
Re-posting from WIOTM Archive - a Don Diligent archived post from August 8, 2016, titled, “Mr. Moon! Just tell us the Unification Church is a CIA operation! Tell us now! You too Neil Salonen! Tell us now!”
Tumblr media
Interview With Reverend Moon - Frederick Sontag - 1977
Sontag: Outsiders seem to detect a sense of conspiracy about the church and its activities. Why does it arouse this suspicion about its activities?
Moon: You know the Unification Church does not have any secrets. Many people think it is surrounded by secrets, like some sort of super CIA-type operation…I do not have anything to hide…we operate in the open.
Cults, Anti-Cultists, and the Cult of Intelligence by Daniel Brandt From NameBase NewsLine, No. 5, April-June 1994
Given the CIA’s resources, it is reasonable to expect that a commensurate interest in the cult phenomenon has secretly persisted through the years… A CIA interest in cults is far more ominous than the phenomenon of cults by themselves, because intelligence elites have the resources and mind-set to manipulate large populations.
The first example of such links is the Unification Church (UC) of Rev. Sun Myung Moon. Today it is too well-established to be considered a cult; the list of their front groups and businesses in NameBase runs to 28 pages with 667 names. The UC no longer recruits on U.S. campuses the way they used to – they don’t need the money that Moonies would earn from selling flowers at airports, and they don’t need this sort of publicity. Instead they buy universities: in 1992 the UC plunked down over $50 million for the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut, and one of the UC’s new trustees there is Jack E. Thomas, who was assistant chief of staff for U.S. air force intelligence for six years, and then special assistant to the CIA director for nine years.
Before the Unification Church was incorporated in the U.S. in 1963 by Bo Hi Pak, Moon had the support of the South Korean Central Intelligence Agency (KCIA). The expansion of the cult into the U.S. was conceived as a means of influencing U.S. politics. Four of Moon’s early followers were young army officers close to Kim Jong Pil, the founding director of the KCIA and chief strategist for the Park regime. Bo Hi Pak was the KCIA liaison to U.S. intelligence at the time, stationed in the Korean Embassy in Washington. Today he is one of Moon’s top aides and president of the Washington Times. In 1962 Kim made a two-week official visit to the U.S., and Lt. Col. Bo Hi Pak arranged meetings with CIA director John McCone, defense secretary Robert McNamara, and Defense Intelligence Agency director Gen. Joseph Carroll. On his way home, Kim met with some of Moon’s followers in San Francisco. Pak’s other duties at the Korean Embassy included frequent liaison trips to the National Security Agency at Fort Meade, Maryland. Moon… has received political and financial support from Yoshio Kodama, Ryoichi Sasakawa, and other powerful Japanese right-wing figures. In 1970 the Japanese contingent of Moon’s organization sponsored the annual conference of the World Anti-Communist League.
Church Takeover Of University Now Complete Hartford Courant August 07, 1992 By KATHERINE FARRISH
The Unification Church’s takeover of the struggling University of Bridgeport is now complete with the election of 16 new trustees, including several of the most prominent Americans in the Unification movement. Leading the list of trustees elected Wednesday by the 15 current trustees are Neil Albert Salonen…New University of Bridgeport trustees nominated by the Professors World Peace Academy: Jack E. Thomas, a retired Air Force major general, former special assistant to the director of the CIA, trustee of the Washington institute.
On the referenced ‘NameBase’ NameBase is a web-based cross-indexed database of names that focuses on individuals involved in the international intelligence community, U.S. foreign policy, crime, and business. The focus is on the post-World War II era and on left of center, conspiracy theory, and espionage activities. Founder Daniel Brandt began collecting clippings and citations pertaining to influential people and intelligence agents after becoming a member of the Students for a Democratic Society, an organization which opposed US foreign policy, in the 1970s. With the advent of personal computing, he developed a database which allowed subscribers to access the names of US intelligence agents.

More tying President Obama to the two-tiered ‘justice’ system
“Splinter the CIA, NSA and FBI into a thousand pieces and scatter them into the winds.”
Agreed, 100 percent!  And what lovely imagery --- this cannot come too soon!  But there’s just one thing:  this quote came from former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, who was at the helm of Twitter during the worst of the unconstitutional collaboration between wannabe censors in government and their eager accomplices in the private sector.  So this is a head-scratcher.
The responses to his tweet show that many people find this Dorsey totally at odds with the other one, and they gladly tell him so.  One typical response:  “Your words today don’t match your actions when you were at Twitter, so which one is real?  No one really knows, although it generally makes sense to pay more attention to what people do, rather than what people say.”
https://thelibertydaily.com/former-twitter-ceo-jack-dorsey-calls-for-end-of-cia-nsa-and-fbi/
Dan Bongino was back Wednesday to offer more details on President Obama’s involvement with Hillary’s State Department email scandal.  But, to borrow Yogi Berra’s expression, it seems to us like “deja vu all over again,” as the Huckabee newsletter was full of this story several years ago.  If Hillary had mishandled classified material, that meant Obama had, too.  As Bongino says, “This whole thing was about Obama the whole time.”
https://rumble.com/v2pslae-dan-bongino-on-durham-report-about-russia-collusion-hoax-it-is-a-scandal-ab.html
If you’re a longtime reader, perhaps you’ll recall legal analyst Andrew C. McCarthy’s 2017 article in NATIONAL REVIEW about why then-FBI Director James Comey had no choice but to drop the Hillary email case.  And, of course, you remember Comey’s surreal press conference on July 5, 2016, listing all of Hillary’s transgressions relative to her sneaky private email account and then saying “no reasonable prosecutor” would take the case because they couldn’t prove she meant to break the law.  She had simply shown “carelessness.”  But the issue of intent was a straw man; the way the law is written, there is no need to prove she intentionally broke it.
https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/not-comeys-decision-exonerate-hillary-obamas-decision/
But a few months before Comey’s bizarre press conference, Obama had publicly stated the very same thing, about Hillary’s “carelessness.”  He’d said she didn’t mean to endanger national security and that the importance of the emails had been vastly overstated.  It was in that same month of April --- even before the FBI had interviewed Hillary --- that Comey started drafting his “no reasonable prosecutor” speech.
So now we can see where Comey got his rationale for letting Hillary skate.  Obama had dictated in April exactly how the case was going to go.  As Bongino points out today, Comey used the exact same words Obama had used when talking about Hillary’s case.
Another thing to note again today:  when Obama was communicating with Hillary on his Blackberry, he was even using an ALIAS.
Also, the Obama administration refused to disclose these communications between him and Hillary because they no doubt contained classified conversations.  (Even worse --- McCarthy doesn’t mention this --- we’re wondering if they might have had something to do with the raid on our consulate in Benghazi.  That would be an additional reason to keep them under wraps.)
So, because Obama had communicated with Hillary over her non-secure private communications system, McCarthy said in 2017, “it would not have been possible to prosecute Mrs. Clinton for mishandling classified information without its being clear that President Obama had engaged in the same conduct.  The administration was never, ever going to allow that to happen.”
Hey, maybe THAT’S why “no reasonable prosecutor” would take the case.  They knew it would mean a short-cut to the unemployment line.  They’d be taken off the case just as surely as those IRS agents investigating Hunter got dropped from theirs.
By May, while Comey was purportedly still drafting his so-called findings, “the Obama Justice Department had fully adopted the theory of the case that had already been announced by President Obama in April.  They leaked to the WASHINGTON POST that Hillary probably would not be charged.  The government scribes at WAPO dutifully noted the exact same rationale Obama had given:  that there was “scant evidence tying Clinton to criminal wrongdoing” because there was “scant evidence that Clinton had malicious intent in [the] handling of emails.”  And nobody at WAPO pointed out that intent had nothing to do with whether or not she’d broken the law.
As McCarthy wrote in 2017, all they had to do to prove Hillary had committed those felonies was show that she willfully transmitted classified information, was grossly negligent in handling it, and withheld or destroyed government records.  They knew she had done all of those things.  Under normal circumstances, plenty of reasonable prosecutors would have taken that case.
McCarthy went on to list “a series of Obama Justice Department shenanigans” designed to block the investigation.  “There is a way,” he said,” a notoriously aggressive way, that the Justice Department and FBI go about their business when they are trying to make a case.  Here, they were trying to UNMAKE a case.”
McCarthy could never have anticipated this when he wrote his piece in 2017, but lately we’ve seen plenty of the “notoriously aggressive way,” as it’s been used to destroy the lives of nonviolent Trump protesters who thought they were simply exercising their constitutional rights on January 6.  We’ve also seen them “unmake” a case --- the Hunter Biden case.
The Obama administration was able to dispense with Hillary’s case by essentially rewriting the statute to require intent and by, McCarthy said, “offering absurd rationalizations for not applying the statue as written.”  That plan came from Obama, to protect Obama, and was previewed by Obama three months before Comey gave his press conference.
FINAL NOTE:  We love to get letters but receive so many with the same refrain:  Why is no one ever prosecuted??  Why is there no accountability??  We’ve just served up one big reason.  Obama’s administration knew how to make itself impervious, to a shocking degree, and set up the ‘Justice’ Department to maintain their power.  It won’t change until we have someone in the White House who will do it what Jack Dorsey suggested. But until then, it’s imperative that people like us keep informing and reminding the public of what really happened, so that the whitewash the media keeps applying isn’t allowed to dry, and the next Republican government will have all the evidence ready to justify the herculean task they’ll face.
Mike Huckabee
